Oh, I've got nothing against Auggie rapidly changing prices to reflect demand.
I just wish he'd asked me first, 'cuz I coulda told him that Sea Hags wouldn't move at six bucks apiece! ;)
My biggest problem with Auggie is that he rarely has everything in stock at the same time. I've got to keep placing small orders to get what I want; if I wait till the missing stuff is on the shelf, the other stuff has sold out by then. :P
(Curse you, Auggie, and your usually-more-decent prices!)
My two cents...
My thoughts may change once I have the minis in hand, but...
Cons: There are 9 Invisibles, and mostly pointless choices, at that. The Ghast is nearly identical to the earlier Ghoul. I am not afraid of a Drow Elite Warrior armed with a big fork (perhaps the next set will have one with a spoon). The Elf Fighter is ugly, like all the elves in this line.
Pros: The dragons are almost all wyrmlings, which this line hadn't produced yet; the one large dragon (flying Black) looks decent. I am pleased to have some new Giant Rats. Is it just me, or does the sword Goblin seem to have heroic hair? The Bullywug looks pretty good (I never use bullywugs, but I'll add one figure to my frog-fish-folk army). The Bugbear executioner is interesting, and I think I like the unarmed Gnoll. The Black Pudding was badly needed. It's nice that all three inorganic Golems are present.
The Grick is decent, but I think the Giants of Legend version remains the best.
The (non-claw) Mind Flayer may be about the best ever produced---it certainly seems menacing.
FYI: Popular Collections is currently having a sale on MM2 singles.
Some prices are good, some less so.
Picked up a brick today and gotta say i'm not impressed with the level of detail on these figs...
Sincerely,
Eric F. Malave
Eric, that was my fear when I added the new pics onto the site. I've been trying to decide whether to pick up this set or Deadly Foes next. Looks like it might be Deadly Foes.
This line has always had cruder sculpts than Pathfinder. The Hell Hounds were blocky but smoother than usual, and the Giant Frogs truly raised the bar, but I guess overall quality may not be on the rise. A shame, since the other line has so many "too obscure to ever use" figures...
I now have minis in-hand, and am pleased to report the sculpts seem good & well-detailed.
The paint jobs are adequate: nothing sensational, but fully functional.
I haven't received all of them yet, but so far, I am not disappointed with any of these minis (Androsphinx & Stone Golem are at the low end, but they do their job without complaint).
Update: I have just gotten the tiny, tiny Grick. The pricetag was inversely proportional to the size of this pathetic offering... :P
Glad to hear it. I should be picking up the set before too long.
