+1 to printable checklists. I love that idea!
I'm going to toss out a VERY ambitious site suggestion here. To be honest, it might be more something that would require you to partner with another site like Donjon or Kobald Fight Club... but Id LOVE if there was a random encounter generator that linked to my collection as listed here on MinisCollector. It would just rock my DMing world if I could go online, type in the number and level of my party members and have it suggest encounters that fit, based on the minis I own.
I had another idea to make the site more "useful". Wouldnt take a ton of programming. What about on the mini's page, adding in a table that lists the 3.5, 4e, 5e, and pathfinder, followed by the book and page number for each of where the stats for the beasts are found. This may encourage more people to use your site as it would allow players to build adventures easier. It would also make this site the only one that I know of where you can look up a pathfinder mini and know it's D&D equivalent. For example: Flying Ray (Deadly Foes #27) translates to a Cloaker in D&D. Having that knowledge for all the various beasts would be huge.
That's an excellent idea, and you're right that it wouldn't be a high hurdle from a technical standpoint. It's a big data entry job, though. Perhaps if I enlisted some volunteers...
I can see a slight use for this feature with highly individualistic figures, but I think it could become a headache with high-utility/re-usable minis. Most mini-users base their choice on how the mini looks, not on which specific game-entry inspired it.
I admit, it would help answer the occasional "Where the heck did THAT come from?" question. ;)
On the otherhand...a feature where you could pick an in-game creature you wished to use, and then find all the available mini-choices for it, might be of some use.
Still, Find a Figure can essentially do this, through tags.
Yep. That's exactly what the tags are for. I'd still like to go back and add more "subjective" tags (like character classes, evil bosses...things that help you narrow down your choices when you're not sure exactly what you're looking for. )
There should probably be a Forum thread with a sticky post that says what tags are available, especially for the subjective descriptors.
I could also see it being somewhat useful to show what distinctions exist in tags. For example, if you can narrow/broaden a search among Snake/Serpentine/Reptile/Reptilian/Amphibian.
(BTW, I occasionally wish I could search for EITHER of two tags at once...ie. "Show me both Reptiles AND Amphibians".)
Hi,
I will not use this site to track my collection until there is a way to export my collection to a spreadsheet (.csv file fine)
Websites come and go. ( See Reserve Pool, Dicemasters Database, etc.) I hope this site stays up for a long time, but I know that is not guaranteed.
It does not make any sense to spend time inputting my collection to this site if my collection will disappear in a year or two if the site stops service.
Please let me know if exporting "My Collection" is currently possible or is in the works.
Thanks!
Yeah, this is something that's been on my list since day one, and I just need to buckle down and get it added.
In the meantime, barring some unforeseen catastrophe, the site isn't going anywhere. :-)
When I view "My Figures", I wish I could see the minis without having to click the little side box.
I'm not sure what kind of help you would need, but Im be happy to assist if Im able.
Thanks, Shad. I may just take you up on that...
I've definitely considered adding HeroClix and Mage Knight, as well as a bunch of other PPM lines (Attack Wing, Dreamblade, World of Warcraft, Axis and Allies and so on). So far I haven't, because I built the site with roleplaying gamers in mind. Would HeroClix collectors be interested in using the site if we didn't have all the stats that went with the figures? Would they be interested at all, for that matter?
But I'm all for adding new lines. I'm going to start a new thread to start soliciting suggestions.
My two cents, even if the miniatures aren't made to be used for roleplaying games, there are plenty of people who do use them for such, so it would be useful to them for their collection to be in one place.
That's an excellent idea, and you're right that it wouldn't be a high hurdle from a technical standpoint. It's a big data entry job, though. Perhaps if I enlisted some volunteers...
I'd volunteer for data entry, both for the adding D&D page numbers idea, and also for adding minis from other lines/sets
Which brings me to my own suggestion, a system where people can add in miniatures, which then get sent to you for aproval, before being added to the site. That would take the load off your shoulders when it comes to entering in miniature sets.
I notice our friends over at minisgallery.com have started their own forums (due to issues affecting their former watering hole, plasticrypt).
Several folks there have asked after checklists for various sets, so I thought I'd add another vote here for printable lists.
I would also love exporting to CSV or something along those lines. Still, this site is basically the greatest thing for tracking minis. Thank you so much for it!
Printable lists are definitely on the way. Development's been sidetracked a bit for personal reasons I won't go into. It's not a huge undertaking; I just need to find the time.
I absolutely love your site. You have made searching for mini's SO much easier. Have you considered adding PAWNs? I mainly use PPM's but do use Pawns if I do not have the right mini.....especially in AP's where you will find some of the unique mini's that have no PPM's available. I don't think it would make sense to add a picture for every pawn. I am thinking in the find a figure tab, it would list that the figure you are looking for is available in pawn collection XYZ. For example if I searched for Huecava you would get a result of Pathfinder Pawns: Bestiary 3 Box, or if you searched Ahkhat you would get a result of Pathfinder Pawns: Mummy's Mask Adventure Path Pawn Collection. As for collecting, I would think you either have the collection or you don't.
The site is an awesome resource and has so many great features already. Having just spent the weekend uploading most of collection here's a few things I think the site really needs:
1. Speed - The site is R E A L L Y slow. not sure if this is something easily fixable but adding just one figure takes upwards of 30 seconds. So entering an entire set can take half and hour easy.
2. Why do I have to add each figure on a separate page? When viewing the gallery of a set I would like to be able to just check off the ones I have then update the page once. If I want to add details like multiple figs, want, trades etc. that can stay on the separate page.
3. Along the same lines as #3, For fixed, non-random sets, I want the ability to just add the whole set to my collection, not have to choose each figure.
4. Having the same feature as #3 for random sets would be great too. If I buy a brick and have 90% of the set then allow me to "add all" and de-select the few I don't have.
Like I said, love the site and will continue to use it. Just some constructive criticisms that I think could make the site even better.
For #2, there's a "Manage Collection" tab near the top of each set's page. That will take you to a form that lets you change your collection numbers in bulk. There's still some improvement that needs to be done there, but it's much easier than doing one page at a time.
#3 is a possibility. I just need to work out how to add multiples of specific figures when there's more than one in a set. I'll look into adding #4.
As for your first point about speed, it's something that I've been struggling with. The problem is that the site is on a shared hosting plan, which means that it's impacted by the other sites that share the servers for my files and database. If the other sites are high-traffic, then they all suffer. I've done what I can to optimize this site, but it still gets slowdowns, especially during US business hours. The only way to get around this would be to move to a more expensive VPN hosting plan, which isn't in the budget at the moment. It's still something I'd like to eventually do, though.
Thanks for the reply. The "Manage Collection" solves a big headache.
If you need funds for better hosting service, maybe start a Patreon and/or offer a subscription-based "premium plan" for those that want some of the more advanced tools.
When will the new Paizo Battles sets be added, Ruins of Last Wall and Kingmaker?
Never mind, found them. Thanks for this update. I would be interesting in donating to the website if you were to set something up. A lot of good work here, and makes it easier than using a spreadsheet to track my collection. :)
Fantastic site. Agree with heroquests post from 1/13/19 - all good ideas. Also, perhaps we can add a field at the mini level that will let us track the location of each mini. A free form field that lets the user specific where they keep their mini would help greatly.
Oh and perhaps a bulk upload would be great. I've got too many minis to update each one by one. Thanks for the consideration.
Would it be possible to add a pull-down menu to the figure finder tab for "in my collection"? Some times I want to see all the minis available for purchases, and some times I just want to find which set has zombie mini I'm looking for in it.....and mine is on page 5 of 8. And again I want to say how much I love this site and the organization you have help bring to my ever growing collection.
I second the suggestion for patreon. Unless it'll make it start feeling like a job. But given all the work you've put in here, I'd be happy to throw a few bucks your way to help keep it up and running.
greetings! I'm new to the site and just started buckling down to add my collection to the site and WHEW it is work!
I've already seen several suggestions for things that would help greatly, but wanted to add my voice to the many thank you's for this site and the work that goes into it. Like I said, I know these have been suggested before, but in case you have some ranking system for what gets done first, here's what I'd like to see:
1. A "quick add" feature from search/list display pages. Probably something simple, like a - sign, number box, and + sign (so when I'm using my tablet I can just tap + until the number matches what I need, or I can manually type in the number if I've got a keyboard handy that day.
2. Ability to add my own minis, either for consideration, or for my own tracking purposes. Example - I got several of the D&D board games when I started DMing as gifts to kickstart my mini collection. None of those minis are on the site, so I can't track them. I'd like to be able to add my own names/photos of minis. I also have a ton of minis for painting, and I notice that the unpainted minis are not on the site either. I'd like to be able to track who I've painted and who I haven't painted, so this goes under the same umbrella.
3. CSV/Spreadsheet export. I hope it never happens, but I do have a small fear that I'll spend several odd weeks of my time adding minis to this site, only to have it go under at some point. I would love a backup of the list so if the worst should happen, I can keep a painstakingly manual list later. Also, I'm just super paranoid about data and having it backed up D:
4. I would love to support you with a Patreon so you can afford better hosting! I am a former web master and I have a lot of info on CHEAP hosting if you'd like some pointers. I bought a 5-year bundle for $70 3 years ago. The site I was running no longer had interest from the person who had it, so I let it expire this year, but they run those specials all the time.
Thank you again, and happy gaming! :D
Thanks for the suggestions! I'm coming off a bout of pneumonia, so I've been slower to respond than usual, but I am taking note of all your ideas.
Sorry to hear about your pneumonia. Hope you're recovering quickly from it.
Are you planning to update the site with the additional Pathfinder Battles sets (Kingmaker, Ruins of Lastwall, Legendary Adventures)?
Those sets were already on the site. I had them linked in through the menus, but not on the PB landing page. That's corrected now.
I've also added the figures for the Volo's and Mordenkainen's Foes set, which was just released.
